Tips for the Novice Fisherman

There are important tips for the novice fisherman that will definitely come in handy on their next or first fishing trip. First of all you need to have a good fishing rod; some excellent quality brands to choose from are Zebco, Fenwick and Shakespeare. If you are fly fishing you would need fly-rods, which also offers you a variety of brands to choose from, most of which can be found at tackle shops where you get your reels, waders, flies or starter kits. Some good advice for a beginner is to maybe try spinning; this is a special angling technique where the fisherman uses a spinning lure to get the fish to bite. Ask about this at the tackle shops as it will depend on which rod you buy in order to find out how the spinning is done.

Once you’ve gotten your hands on your Shakespeare, Zebco or Fenwick fly rods it is time to use one of the most important tips for the novice angler and put together your own starter kit; it will cost less than the starter kits sold in tackle shops. In your kit you should have sufficient hooks, sinkers, floats, line, swivels (just incase) and of course some flies, maybe waders and some extra reels. Then you need your tackle box and make sure you bring lots of bait. Waders, similar to life jackets, aren’t always necessary, only if you will be walking in the water, but you never know when you might need them so it is safer to have one for each person.

There is a lot for you to take into consideration when you learning to fish, but the most important thing to remember is to be patient. Don’t pack up and leave when you have been in the water for ten minutes and nothing has happened, maybe then try another spot. Take advice you get from any other fisherman and don’t be scared to ask questions; other fishermen were also beginners at one stage and they wouldn’t mind sharing their tips for the novice fisherman.
